WEC lightweight champ Jamie Varner confirms with 6th Round his hand is fully healed
Current WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner has confirmed with 6th-Round.com that his injured hand is indeed finally healed. The following is Varner’s reply to us via Twitter when being asked if injuries are behind him.
@6thRound yes sir I’m back
Varner won the belt from former champ Rob McCullough at WEC 32 in 2008 and has successfully defended twice but came under harsh criticism from fans and fighters alike after he did not continue following a controversial knee to the head from opponent Donald Cerrone.
With the champ having been on the shelf for some time, the WEC created a match between Cerrone and Henderson to determine an interim title holder that would face Varner next. With that bout having taken place this past weekend and Henderson claiming the victory via unanimous decision, Jamie can look forward to an early 2010 return to action.
