donald cowboy cerroneWith current champ Jamie Varner seemingly out indefinitely with supposed injuries, World Extreme Cagefighting has gone ahead with creating an interim belt. The two fighters who will meet in the cage for the title will be none other than recent challenger to Varner, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (10-1) and Ben “Smooth” Henderson (9-1).

A wise move by WEC to create the interim belt, as Cerrone is ready to go and Varner continually denies he is ready to return to action. With Jamie’s last fight having been back in january of this year, many have questioned whether the belt holder is searching for excuses to avoid a rematch with the dangerous Cowboy.

One thing if for sure though, and it is that Cerrone and Henderson are solid choices to fight for the interim title and fans will be treated to an exciting fight come September 2 in Youngstown, Ohio.
