World Extreme Cagefighting GM Reed Harris made an appearance on MMAjunkie Radio today to lend transparency to the news of the promotion’s next event changing date and location. It seems the main reason behind postponing until October 10 is main event fighter Benson “Smooth” Henderson needing time to heal an injury in addition to the same being true for some prelim fighters. Harris mentioned WEC contacted network partner Versus and discussed a future date that mutually worked.
Out of the interview came some interesting nuggets of info related to future plans for the growing Zuffa-owned organization. WEC will likely hold an event every month through summer 2010, with some of them falling on Saturday nights. Harris attributes the success of the shows to having meaningful fights from top to bottom crafted by matchmaker Sean Shelby.
Furthermore, it seems there was no discussion between WEC and Versus about Direct TV and any impending trouble between the television contract played zero role in canceling the Ohio event. Ticket sales, said Harris, were also a non-factor in moving WEC 43 into October.
