It’s with great excitement that I pass along the word of UFC on Versus 6 being confirmed as set for the Washington D.C. metro area, via MMAJunkie.com. We first learned of this through a fight announcement informing fans of a lightweight showdown between TUF runner-up Michael Johnson and British submission machine Paul Sass.
In addition to the matchup, officials also confirmed the rumored location for the Oct. 1 event: Washington, D.C.
It’s not clear, though, if the Versus-televised event takes place in actual Washington, D.C. or perhaps nearby Fairfax, Va., which also hosted UFC Fight Night 20 back in early 2010.
If the UFC does decide to again go with George Mason University’s Patriot Center, it would makes sense in the fact that the size of the venue was appropriate for Fight Night 20. Now let’s say UFC on Versus 6 is indeed held within the District – that would likely mean a larger event with bigger names to due to the capacity of D.C. arenas.
It goes without saying that I will be working on providing any and all details leading up to this fight card, and will again be seeking media credentials.
UPDATE: The venue has been confirmed as the Verizon Center in D.C.’s Chinatown area. This is a vastly larger stadium than GMU’s Patriot Center, and likely means a much stronger fight card than this area previously saw.
