UFC 93 continues to get juicier by the day, as it was announced today that the event featuring a main bout between current welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre and BJ Penn, will include Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson, and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Mark Coleman. The event will be aired via pay-per-view on January 17, held live at the O2 arena in Dublin.

Franklin (24-3) and Henderson (23-7) both recently competed on the UFC 88 card, and earned well-deserved wins over very game opponents. It is however, a different story when it comes to Rua and Coleman.

These two big boys haven’t been inside the octagon for some time now. “Shogun” has been plagued with injuries both before and after his loss to current 205 lbs. champ Forrest Griffin, and “Hammer” (Coleman) had been out of competition until he announced his return upon introduction to the UFC Hall of Fame.

President Dana White said the following, of the Franklin – Henderson bout, taking place 205 lbs. “These are two fan favorites with a lot of pride on the line as they want to show that they are still among the very best fighters in the world.”

Now, keep in mind that Rua has been making some waves recently by publicly accusing Coleman of ducking a rematch with Rua. Rematch? That’s right; as former PRIDE fans will be quick to point out, Mark snapped Mauricio’s arm in their last meeting, with the fight officially ending at just 49 seconds into the first round.

With the UFC’s plans to go global outside of the US and the UK, as recently announced plans for an event in the Philippines were unveiled, 93 looks to develop on that theme and provide an explosive card for the beginning of 2009.
