thiago alvesThe UFC 111 main card has gone through serious shake-ups in the past few hours. It all began with welterweight contender Thiago Alves failing to be cleared by the New Jersey athletic commission due to a brain irregularity found during a CT scan.

Immediately scratched from his bout with Jon Fitch, questions quickly arose as to if Fitch would be offered another opponent and if so, who.

Eventually, the promotion announced Ben Saunders would enter the Octagon against Fitch. Saunders’ originally scheduled opponent Jake Ellenberger will be paid his show salary and win bonus but not compete at the event. Now with one less bout on the pay-per-view portion, Kurt Pellegrino vs. Fabricio Camoes shall appear on the main card.

We wish Thiago Alves all the best and look forward to Fitch vs. Saunders.

Update: It is rumored that Saunders will receive a title shot if he is victorious on Saturday night.
