nate marquardtA couple of intriguing (potential) updates to the UFC 109 fight card have been swirling today. If rumors prove true in the coming weeks, fans could see a match to determining the #1 middleweight contender and rematch brewing since early 2009.

Shot at Anderson Silva’s belt: Originally it was believed that Dan Henderson would face Nate Marquardt for the #1 contender position in the UFC’s middleweight division after both scored brilliant knockout in their most recent fights but contract issues with Dan has forced a different path for Nate. it seems that we’ll be seeing Marquardt square off against “The Phenom” Vitor Belfort when the UFC heads to Las Vegas for 109. This gives the champ Anderson Silva time to heal and appeases his management’s request for a top contender duel.

Note: Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen had been in the works but would be scratched if the Belfort fight is signed

Rematch action at 170 lbs.: It is being rumored that Josh Koscheck has been offered a fight against Paulo Thiago on the UFC 109 card. This would be a rematch from their February 2009 bout in which Koscheck was caught late in the first round by an uppercut and hook combination. Josh soon rebounded by TKO’ing Frank Trigg and most recently tapping out Anthony Johnson. Koscheck has publicly stated he’d like to fight twelve times in 2010 so perhaps this the first of non-stop “KOS” action in the new year.
