UFC 108 receives more “epic” factor as Nogueira vs. Velasquez to help headline while Lesnar ill
In a move we predicted soon after the Mexican-born fighter’s win at UFC 104, the promotion has matched undefeated HW up-and-comer Cain Velasquez (7-0) with one of the sport’s all-time greatest champions. Antonio Rodrigo Minotauro Nogueira (32-5-1) will be the likely opponent at UFC 108.
The card was to have current heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar take on #1 contender Shane Carwin, but the man with the belt is apparently ill enough with mono that he won’t be back in the gym until December or January. With this bout likely taking place in March at best, the divisional action between Nogueira and Velasquez will most certainly establish who will next fight for the belt against the whoever is champ.
The current UFC 108 card scheduled for Jan. 2 in Las Vegas is as follows:
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez
Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva
Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Carlos Condit vs. Paul Daley
Tyson Griffin vs. Jim Miller
Martin Kampmann vs. Rory Markham
Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout
Dan Lauzon vs. Cole Miller
Ryan Jensen vs. Mark Munoz
Jake Ellenberger vs. Mike Pyle
