henderson knockout bisping ufc 100We had reported last month that MMA legend and former PRIDE champ Wanderlei Silva could face Michael Bisping at UFC 105 in the UK. It seems that the match-up may not come together with Wandy still taking time off to heal and regroup before another battle.

With that potentially being the case, it’s time to take a look at some possible opponents for Bisping. The Brit recently had his head nearly removed when Dan Henderson delivered a crushing knockout in the second round of their fight at UFC 100. “The Count’s” title aspirations were sent crashing to the mat just as his lifeless body was.

Back to the subject at hand…

-

Yoshihiro Akiyama: Fresh off a nice win over Alan Belcher, Akiyama has fan appeal and momentum guiding him into whatever his next match will be. His well-rounded nature inside the cage would make for a good scrap with Bisping.

Denis Kang: Kang recently rebounded from a loss (Belcher submission) in his Octagon debut with a decision win over Xavier Foupa-Pokam. He’s a big enough name to draw fan interest and has enough fire to make for a fun fight with Bisping.

Kendall Grove: The Hawaiian would not likely create much fanfare and has never grown into the draw some thought he could be for the UFC. Coming off a loss to Almeida, it may not be a move that makes much sense to either party for Kendall to square off in the UK.

Ricardo Almeida: “Big Dog” recently defeated the aforementioned Grove at UFC 101 in Philly, and has express interest in moving down to welterweight. It’s possible his rumored match with Jon Fitch could be officially announced but with the move to 170 lbs. not being guaranteed, Ricardo makes a pretty good opponent here and the timing is right.

I wouldnt mind seeing Grove v. Bisping. Both coming off of losses and both needing a win. The loser may have to part ways with the UFC. This should mix up the middle weight division a bit.

Yeah I think it would work out pretty well in terms of loser-leaves-town marketing. “Both guys need this win” kind of talk would do well in the UK. Both guys are tall strikers with ground skills so maybe the UFC can make this happen.
