UFC 106 goes down tomorrow night from Las Vegas and we’re happy to report that all scheduled fighters successfully made weight at the official weigh-ins today.

UFC 106: “Ortiz vs. Griffin 2″ fight card set with 11 bouts

It’s the event that everyone was looking forward to as #1 heavyweight contender Shane Carwin was scheduled to take on champ Brock Lesnar. After the current belt holder withdrew from the scrap, anticipation dropped off but only for a moment before the UFC patched the sinking ship. By moving Ortiz vs. Griffin to the headlining slot with Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson handling co-main duties, momentum is back for this event.

Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves canceled with Alves suffering knee injury

Jon Fitch will no longer face Thiago Alves at UFC 107. Alves has reportedly suffered a knee injury during training and has pulled out of the recently scheduled bout.
Fitch’s original opponent was to be Ricardo Almeida and the would meet at 106, however Almeida suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw. The injury was, oddly enough, the knee. The cursed match making at this time of year leaves not many options left for the top-tier welterweight.

UFC 106 receives a co-main event in Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson

UFC 106 was looking fairly bleak after main event fighter (and current champ) Brock Lesnar pulled out of his scheduled title defense against Shane Carwin. Lesnar is supposedly ill (although tooting his own horn at Vikings games) and he may meet Carwin now at the UFC’s annual NYE show on January 2nd, 2010 at 108. With that being the case, original co-main event Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin has been promoted to 106’s main event.
After the switcheroo was announced, it left fans wondering how the organization would fill the main …
