UFC 106: “Ortiz vs. Griffin 2″ fight card set with 11 bouts

It’s the event that everyone was looking forward to as #1 heavyweight contender Shane Carwin was scheduled to take on champ Brock Lesnar. After the current belt holder withdrew from the scrap, anticipation dropped off but only for a moment before the UFC patched the sinking ship. By moving Ortiz vs. Griffin to the headlining slot with Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson handling co-main duties, momentum is back for this event.

The evolving meaning of losses and wins in the UFC, and likely Japanese expansion

Wins and losses mean something different to every fighter based on where they are in a career, recent outcomes, opponent, contract terms etc. The one universal impact of a loss for any MMA athlete is that being on the defeated end of an outcome does not bear nearly as much fruit as the opposite.

Mark Coleman to no longer “Hammer” Tito Ortiz at UFC 106?

A co-headline UFC 106 light heavyweight bout between former champs Tito Ortiz and Mark Coleman is apparently not happening. Ortiz posted to his Twitter account last night that he will be looking for a new opponent to fight on Nov. 21.

No word yet on if this is official, as the fight is still showing on the UFC’s website as scheduled for 106. If indeed Coleman has pulled out, it’s a loss for the card …

Updates to upcoming UFC cards 105 (UK) and 106, Carwin facing Lesnar

So much has been rumored, announced and changed over the past few hours in regards to UFC 105 and 106. For those who don’t tune in to our events section, the two fight cards have filled out and now include intriguing match-ups sure to turn these events into major draws.
