Fedor Emelianenko to run for political office in Russia, MMA retirement is rumored

It seems Fedor Emelianenko is taking a page out of the Manny Pacquiao book and running for office in his homeland. Fedor, considered by many as the best fighter on the planet, will seek a political role in Russia.
This of course, has started rumors that the heavyweight will retire after his current fight contract with MMA promotion Strikeforce ends. There are currently two fights left on the contract and his next bout will be against Fabricio Werdum.

Fedor Emelianenko returns to Strikeforce at June 26 event on Showtime

After months of anticipation, the world’s No. 1 heavyweight and pound-for-pound Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter, Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko (31-1), will make his eagerly awaited return to the cage to face two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion and top-ranked superstar Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum (13-4) in a STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL co-promoted event at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on Saturday, June 26,  live on SHOWTIME® at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

Fedor Emelianenko signs with California-based Strikeforce, co-promotion with M1-Global

The man many consider to be the best fighter in the world will now be fighting for California-based MMA promotion Strikeforce.
Russian heavyweight Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko has signed a multi-fight contract which includes co-promotion with M1-Global. This aspect of the deal is what broke down negotiations between the and UFC, earlier last week.
