The evolving meaning of losses and wins in the UFC, and likely Japanese expansion

Wins and losses mean something different to every fighter based on where they are in a career, recent outcomes, opponent, contract terms etc. The one universal impact of a loss for any MMA athlete is that being on the defeated end of an outcome does not bear nearly as much fruit as the opposite.

HDNet Fights announces partnership with World Victory Road’s “Sengoku”

DALLAS — HDNet Fights announced today that it has agreed to a long-term partnership with World Victory Road to exclusively air the Sengoku Mixed Martial Arts promotion on HDNet. The deal marks the first time that the promotion’s events will be seen in their entirety in North America.
In 2009, HDNet will feature 25 events from Asia alone, due to the network’s partnerships with World Victory Road, DREAM, K-1, and K-1 MAX.

We first broke news to you of a star-studded “FieLDS Dynamite!! 2008″ event taking shape, a few weeks back. Well, the card has grown into one of the best of the year, and we’ve got the entire line-up for you to salivate over.

Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ vs. Overeem rematch canceled, fight officially off

Looks like those who said Cro Cop vs. Overeem would happen can now be singing a different tune, being that the fight will not take place as expected. 6th-Round.com speculated there’s been too much uncertainty with both men in the past, and Cro Cop also mentioned he may not have been 100% going into the year-end match due to knee issues.
