Strikeforce has crafted a reputation for putting on solid cards that elevate them from the “second tier” perception that some promotions suffer from. Unfortunately, the production and commentary continually sends their events crashing to the second rate canvas but the talent will still be there inside the cage on August 15th due to late replacements and newly announced bouts.

Former PRIDE and UFC heavyweight Fabiricio Werdum will make his Strikeforce debut on August 15th as he faces current heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem, MMA Fanhouse reports.
The two met back in May of 2006 while fighting in Japan, with Werdum being the victor by way of submission (kimura). With their history, the rematch factor will likely be pushed as a selling point by Strikeforce.
However strong the marketing is, new fans will likely be unfamiliar with both fighters. Overeem last competed in the organization in 2007 and Werdum makes his banner debut.
