Rumor: Cro Cop to meet Rothwell at UFC 110 in Australia, February 2010
While Wanderlei Silva and Yoshihiro Akiyama are expected to headline the UFC’s first trip down under, there is another possible bout we’ve caught word of. MMA legend and former PRIDE super star Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (25-7-2) is rumored to be facing “Big” Ben Rothwell (30-7) at UFC 110 in late February.
Cro Cop has struggled in the Octagon after transitioning to the States after a successful career in Japan. Although he’s put together a couple wins over the past couple years here, he has yet to return to form of old (a la head kick KOs). Perhaps the trip overseas is just what the Croatian striker needs to jump start into a second wind.
Rothwell is also looking to make his impression felt in the big show but fell short at UFC 104 when facing talented up-and-comer Cain Velasquez. Cain’s wrestling was too much for Ben to handle but he likely will not have to worry about the takedowns when facing Filipovic.
UFC 110 is tentatively scheduled for February 20, 2010 and we’ll keep you up to date with all fight card developments.
