Satoshi Ishii, a well-known Judo practitioner and Olympic medalist, has created a buzz around the MMA world by talking of a possible fight with Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko on New Year’s Eve. As has long been a tradition in Japan, Fedor fights in the land of the rising sun as millions welcome the new 365. Ishii’s said that he will not compete at the next Olympics because he plans a career move into MMA.
With rumors flying for some time now, there has been speculation abound of whether Ishii facing Fedor could happen under the fairly new “DREAM” banner. Despite Sasahara of the DREAM stating the match will not happen, it’s worth noting Satoshi has more ties to this organization, aside from the fact that Sengoku tend to attract Judoists.
Currently, Ishii is recovering from an injury and is not expected to compete will not compete in the Judo world championships.
