Nogueira vs. Velasquez winner will receive heavyweight title shot
A heavyweight bout scheduled for UFC 108 between MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Minotauro Nogueira and Cain Velasquez has major implications for both men. According to various outlets and the MMA grapevine, the winner will be guaranteed a shot at their division’s belt.
Nogueira or Velasquez will likely face the winner of current champ Brock Lesnar vs. #1 contender Shane Carwin. The championship match should have been contested at UFC but Lesnar apparently has mono and has forced Carwin to wait until January/February 2010 at earliest. At first, it was believed Lesnar had the flu but his camp has since stated he is battling mono.
The currently rumored UFC 108 fight card is as follows:
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez
Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva
Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Carlos Condit vs. Paul Daley
Tyson Griffin vs. Jim Miller
Martin Kampmann vs. Rory Markham
Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout
Dan Lauzon vs. Cole Miller
Ryan Jensen vs. Mark Munoz
Jake Ellenberger vs. Mike Pyle
