mike easton uwcGeorge Mason University’s Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA played host to Ultimate Warrior Championship‘s seventh show this past Saturday and it was a true barn burner.

6th-Round.com was cageside providing live coverage throughout the evening and we can attest that the crowd was thrilled from start to finish by the amazing display of athleticism and heart by all the fighters on the night’s card. UWC’s quality production further added polish to the event and will surely continue their growth with commitment to being the best MMA on the east coast.

Saturday in Fairfax was a overwhelming success for VA/DC/MD area fighters with four out of 5 locals picking up solid wins over tough competition.

Training out of Capital Jiu Jitsu, female fighter (115 lbs.) Iman Ichhal TKO’d Japanese fighter Sumie Sakai. Virginia wrestler Jesse Riggleman bested a scrappy Taz Ferguson by impressing the judges to post a unanimous decision followed up by both Kris McCray and Kyle Baker notching devastating first-round TKO victories over respective opponents Igor Almedia and Tommy Truex. With the crowd feeding off the energy shown in the cage, the buzz leading up to local champ Mike Easton‘s entrance was undeniable.

Easton engaged in a tough fought battle with former WEC champ Chase Beebe for five grueling rounds. Although Beebe took the back of his opponent for a good bit of the match, he could do nothing with it. Easton’s superlative ground game proved too difficult for Beebe to penetrate with submission attempts and on the feet it was all Easton. Leg kick after leg kick scored enough points with the judges to award Easton with the win and the UWC bantamweight belt stays in D.C.

In the co-main event, fight fans played witness to one of the greatest flyweight bouts seen in some time as Pat Runez and John Dodson battled through five rounds leading the judges to a split decision favoring Runez. Dodson nearly had the fight finished in the first couple rounds with accurate boxing and takedowns followed up with submission attempts but the bout became Runez’s to take as time went on. Recovering from deep water, Arizona Combat Sports’ Runez took it to TapouT show standout Dodson and turned the tables enough to earn the crowd’s vast support and the first ever UWC world flyweight title belt around his waist.
