Martin Kampmann vs. Alexandre Barros rumored bout for UFC 93

It looks as if the UFC’s Martin “Hitman” Kampmann (13-2), who recently dropped from middleweight to welterweight, will likely make his debut in his new weight class against newcomer Alexandre Barros (13-5).

Luckily for all of us, the rumored bout sounds to be on tap for the UFC 93: ‘Franklin vs. Henderson’ card. 93 is already sporting some great match-ups between Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson, and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Mark “The Hammer” Coleman.

Why should you be excited about this fight? Well, Kampmann put together an impressive nine-fight win streak before losing brutally to Nate Marquardt in September at UFC 88. It’s good to have the Dutchman back in action after he suffered a terrible knee injury that sidelined the former middleweight contender for a year.

As for Alexandre, he’s an MMA veteran who has been stepping into the cage as a professional since 1999. In fact, Barros has fought Matt Hughes in the past, and is riding a nice nine fight win streak.

If the bout is signed and added to the UFC 93 card, it will potentially serve as a litmus test for Kampmann at 170 lbs. Likewise, it’ll be a good opportunity for the UFC to see if Barros can hang in the big time. With recent leaning-out of the overall roster of fighters as to have only the best of the best, a loss is now that much more dangerous to a guy’s career inside the Octagon.
