Land of the Rising Sun seeks The Maine-iac Sylvia
It has been reported by MMAweekly.com that both top Japanese MMA promotions DREAM and World Victory Road, have expressed interest in having former UFC heavyweight champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia fight for them.
Sylvia’s long-time manager Monte Cox confirmed DREAM and WVR are pushing to have Tim fight very soon, but also stated that the two have plans to set up a January match with either Paul Buentello or Roy Nelson at Affliction’s next show. Affliction, which has only held one event to date, had moved their second show from late this year, until tentatively in January 2009.
Sylvia is in need of a win to combat the criticism he has received for losing his killer instinct after having several lackluster performances before being booted by the UFC. Most recently, the heavyweight who fights out of Miletich Fight Systems in Bettendorf, Iowa, was dismantled by Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction “Banned”. The highly ranked Fedor needed only 36 seconds of the first round to beat down and submit his opponent.
