The “Badboy” will have to sit on the sidelines a bit longer and wait for his next chance to step into the Octagon, as his scheduled opponent Tiequan Zhang will now face Issei Tamura at UFC 144 in Japan. The nature of Garcia’s injury has not been disclosed.
While not many Stateside fight fans will be familiar with Tamura, the featherweight fighter has been a staple of Japan’s Shooto promotion for several years and faces a tough step up in competition on just two weeks’ notice. Although he’s gone just 1-2 in his past three matches, so has his opponent.
Zhang, who’s also know as “The Mongolian Wolf” has struggled since joining the UFC ranks after being brought over from WEC. He’s alternated with wins and losses in four fights since being with Zuffa (WEC and now UFC), but remains a highly watched prospect at 145 lbs.
