MMAweekly.com is reporting that UFC lightweight Hermes Franca was arrested today after 2 a.m., on suspicion of driving under the influence after WEC 36.

This is now the latest installment the chronicles of Hermes of late, which includes his acceptance and return from a 12 month suspension earlier this year for steroid use in his fight with Sean Sherk. Sherk was also banned for 12 months after failing his drug test, but had the period reduced in half.

“Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight competitor, Hermes Franca, was arrested last night by the Jupiter Police Department in Jupiter, Fla for a DUI offense … According to the report, Franca was arrested at 2:38am by an officer who suspected the fighter was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

Now, I spotted Hermes in the crowd cage-side at WEC 36 last night, and apparently he partied too hard before driving afterwards. It is a major set-back for the aspiring contender, who is popular among fans for his combination of a brilliant ground game and skillful striking.
