Welcome 6th Rounders, to my picks for tomorrow night’s Strikeforce event. “Shamrock vs. Diaz” will air Saturday evening via Showtime, beginning at 10 p.m. EST.
The event includes a main event with California bragging rights on the line as former middleweight champ Frank Shamrock takes on ground specialist Nick Diaz. A solid line-up calls for solid picks, right? Whether you agree or disagree, leave your thoughts by commenting.
As a lead writer here, there’s a certain “responsibility” for making quality peeks into the future. That being said, anything can (and does) happen in mixed martial arts. With an overall 61-40 record thus far since our launch, let’s get into how I, Gray D., see the main card action inside the cage going down on April 11 from the HP Pavillion in San Jose.
Update: 3-2 outcome
Frank Shamrock vs. Nick Diaz: Shamrock’s size and superior striking will win him this fight.
Gilbert Melendez vs. Rodrigo Damm: Melendez is hungry for the title shot, and will take out Damm. Look for Melendez to keep the pace up but fight intelligently.
Benji Radach vs. Scott Smith: Both men are heavy hitters, but I give the nod to Smith. Radach may be a little too aggressive for his own good here.
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos vs. Hitomi Akano: Interesting fight, and I’ll have to go with Santos. Her power and striking prowess will lead her to victory.
Brett Rogers vs. Ron “Abongo” Humphrey: Could go either way, really, but I’ll take Humphrey with superior conditioning.
