Welcome 6th Rounders, to my picks and predictions for Saturday’s Strikeforce event. “Fedor vs. Rogers” will air Saturday night via CBS (in the US) beginning at 9 p.m. EST. This card features a main event showdown between the world’s #1 fighter in Fedor Emelianenko and undefeated Brett Rogers. A solid line-up calls for solid picks, right? Whether you agree or disagree, leave your thoughts by commenting.
As a lead writer here, there’s a certain “responsibility” for making quality peeks into the future. That being said, anything can (and does) happen in mixed martial arts. With an overall 149-95 record thus far since our launch, let’s get into how I, Gray D., see the action inside the cage going down on November 7 from Chicago.
*(winners are in bold)
PICKS OUTCOME: Perfect 4-0
Main card (televised):
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers: Emelianenko by submission (armbar) in Round 1. Fedor possesses superior striking and grappling with explosive speed and power. While Rogers has a future, I see Emelianenko walking away with the win.
Jason “Mayhem” Miller vs. Jake Shields (for vacant Strikeforce middleweight title): Shields via unanimous decision. Miller is a very worthy opponent for Shields but I suspect his time in Vegas and Hollywood will prove detrimental to his cardio thus opening holes for Shields to capitalize on for dominant positioning. I will not be too surprised if Miller’s superior striking shines bright but I have to call it for Shields.
Champ Gegard Mousasi vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (non-title match): Mousasi by submission in Round 1. Sokoudjou’s lack of ground game and limited cardio will be his downfall here. Expect something similar to the Machida fight.
Antonio Silva vs. Fabricio Werdum: Werdum by TKO in Round 2. Werdum is hungry enough for a shot at the title after beating Mike Kyle that I suspect he has taken this fight seriously and will display his power.
Gray D. is 149-95 in his overall picks here at 6th-Round.com and pens this column before every major MMA event. Outside of writing, he is a fitness/nutrition enthusiast and runs the site’s Twitter account @6thRound.
