bj penn loses to gsp at ufc 94As I’ve been saying for some time now, B.J. Penn has shown multiple signs of lacking the desire to continue on in professional MMA fighting. Training at the championship level is not something the man sees as worthwhile or enjoyable, and thus you have the evidence right in front of you in the form of last Saturday night’s fight (if you could call it that).

B.J. simply wants to do other things, outside of having to sweat in a rusty warehouse with a bunch of “bros” for weeks on end. He’s already won the world jiu jitsu championship and already achieved champ status in the UFC by age 30, and a lack of hunger is increasingly evident. One thing that keeps elite MMA so genuine, is the work must be put in for any chance at domination. The work, doesn’t get easier with age.

“I have no clue what is going on in my head right now. I was going to make this my last fight and finish up fighting GSP. In my head, I was with [the UFC] for nine or ten years and I kind of just wanted to be finished with this whole thing after this. So I don’t know where my head is right now.” – B.J. Penn

It will be interesting to see if and how he takes on #1 contender in the lightweight division, Kenny “Kenflo” Florian. Will we see Baby J run his mouth as usual and put on a clinic, run his mouth as usual and fail as he did aginst GSP, or hang up the gloves once and for all? Time will tell, time will tell.
