Dana White says Nogueira suffered staph infection leading up to UFC 92
Not to take anything away from Frank Mir’s incredible performance at UFC 92, but Dana White’s revelation about Nogueira’s condition leading up to UFC 92 makes a lot of sense. “Minotauro” looked slower and less mobile than we are used to seeing from the former interim heavyweight champ. He suffered a hard loss to Mir on Saturday night in Vegas.
White mentioned this, along with breaking down other aspects of “The Ultimate 2008″, during his appearance on “The Carmichael Dave” show in Sacramento.
During the fight, I had commented on Big Nog’s lack of effort to switch-step, shuffle, anything to avoid jabs. Knowing the former PRIDE champ and aspiring UFC champ is a true tough-guy in his matches, something had to be up. Surely it wasn’t just an “off night”. Now we know we can truly expect a bigger, better Nog in his next fight. Mir vs. Nogueira 2, anyone? That’s right, I’m picking Mir to destroy Lesnar in 2009.
We wish Nogueira a good recovery and strong return to action in the near future.
