dana whiteToday’s UFC press conference relayed some significant news which included updates as to some of the sport’s most popular fighters. The returns of former UFC draws, match switch-ups and the million pound gorilla in the room - Fedor, were all talking point this afternoon.

To take away…

Tito Ortiz: The Huntington Beach Bad Boy has re-signed with the organization that made him a star, the UFC. He does not have a return date set but a potential opponent is MMA legend Mark Coleman. Ortiz has a vast array of intriguing match-ups and it is good to know he is back. Former champ Forrest Griffin as well as Stephan Bonnar have both expressed interest in fighting Tito.

Vitor Belfort: A former UFC force, the Brazilian’s Affliction contract has been picked up by the UFC. He will now replace Dan Henderson against Rich Franklin in the main event of UFC 103. Casual fans may not be familiar with Belfort but the signing is significant and could produce a very solid contender at light heavyweight.

Rich Franklin: Without a chance to avenge his loss to Henderson, a bout with Belfort is interesting for a couple of reasons. If Franklin wins, it is a significant step up for him in the 205 lbs. division.but a loss wouldn’t be devastating.

Dan Henderson: Now out of his scheduled fight with Franklin, Hendo will likely receive the next shot at middleweight champ Anderson Silva. The bout would be a rematch from their previous meeting in 2008.

Fedor Emelianenko: Still not in the world’s biggest MMA promotion, Dana White is skeptical as to whether the pound-for-pound consensus king will ever sign on the UFC dotted line.
