Spike TV will broadcast first five-round non-title fight with UFC 138

Spike TV heads across the pond to the LG Arena in Birmingham, England for UFC 138 headlined by a battle between two of the sport’s top middleweights, Chris Leben (26-7) and Mark Munoz (11-2), on Saturday, November 5 (8 p.m.-11 p.m. midnight ET/PT- same day tape).  This main event between Leben and Munoz will be the UFC’s first five-round non-title fight.

Nate Quarry to announce UFC’s purchase of G4 TV?

Earlier this month, MMAFighting.com reported that the UFC is looking to buy the cable network “G4 TV”. Well, long-time UFC veteran fighter Nate “Rock” Quarry thumbed out a tweet several minutes ago which leads me to believe the world’s largest MMA organization may announce the purchase this coming week.

Former UFC lightweight Efrain Escudero signs with Shine Fights

Efrain Escudero has signed with Shine Fights. The Ultimate Fighter season 8 winner had fought several times after the UFC’s reality show but was eventually cut due to lack of performance both inside and out of the Octagon. Missing weight twice and failing to realize his potential during matches finally lead to dismissal after a loss to relative newcomer Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira.

Strikeforce signs heavyweight Josh Barnett

NEW YORK (Sept. 13, 2010) – Two-time champion and top world-ranked heavyweight superstar Josh “The Babyfaced Assassin” Barnett has signed a multi-fight agreement to compete for world championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion STRIKEFORCE.

Virginia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Program clarifies cancellation of Shine Fights tournament

With the cancellation of Shine Fights’ plans to hold an event at Fairfax’s GMU Patriot Center came questions as to why such a failure was again happening for the upstart company.
The promotion was previously shut down by the North Carolina Boxing Authority after attempting to hold “Worlds Collide” which was to feature Din Thomas vs. Ricardo Mayorga.
