Anderson Silva to face former light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin at UFC 101
It is with great excitement that we’ll now be able to not only report to you live the results of Penn vs. Florian and Rampage’s title shot at UFC 101 in Philadelphia, but none other than middleweight champ Anderson Silva facing Forrest Griffin.
The mates over at UK-based MMABay are reporting that they can exclusively confirm The Spider will face his toughest test as of late in a fight with former light heavyweight champ at 205 lbs.
Silva has been a shell of his former self in his last two title defenses, but easily disposed of a tough James Irvin in his last fight at light heavyweight. The recent performances (or lack there of) turned in by Anderson have been of little excitement to fans and UFC brass alike. The move to replace Forrest’s original opponent of Thiago Silva (now injured) with the current middleweight champ is a wise move.
If Forrest is to make it through Anderson, it immediately propels him back to a title shot status and conversely if Silva were to win and make a good fight with Griffin then the “world’s best pound-for-pound” fighter returns to form.
As aforementioned, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will face the winner of UFC 98’s title match between champ Rashad Evans (rumored) and undefeated Lyoto Machida, and Kenny Florian will finally receive his long-deserved chance to dethrone the lightweight champ B.J. Penn on August 8th.

Yeah… it’s vs Thiago Silva, not Anderson. You’re getting your silvas confused.
As the post states, Thiago Silva was Forrest’s originally scheduled opponent but has now been replaced by Anderson Silva.
Thiago Silva and Keith Jardine have agreed to meet at UFC 102!
