Affliction’s “Trilogy” event reportedly canceled, promotion on shaky legs
It is being reported that Affliction’s third event “Trilogy” is being canceled. News we brought to you earlier this week of main event fighter Josh Barnett testing positive for anabolic steroids fueled the rumor mill with many speculating on who would now take on reigning WAMMA heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianenko. As we predicted via our Twitter account, this development would spell the end of Affliction’s promotional efforts whether this fight card in question went through or not.
Over the past couple days it was thought that Vitor Belfort would be swapped in for the unlicensed Barnett, however this would have left Belfort’s original opponent Jorge Santiago alone in the ring. Other notable fighters such as Fabricio Werdum, Brett Rogers, Jeff Monson and Don Frye were all thought to be vying for a shot at Fedor next weekend, but news of the cancellation effectively silences all speculation.
