Welcome to Adam D.’s pick and predictions for the very exciting UFC 98: “Evans vs. Machida” card. The event has shaped up to be a very stellar one and already looks to be a front runner for PPV of the year. This card is full of match ups that have the potential of upsets as well, especially the main event. Let’s break it down shall we?
Pick results update: 8-3!
Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida: Machida is strong in his stand up and he is an excellent jiu jitsu practitioner but his elusiveness has been known to make very boring fights. However, he has picked up his pace and become the aggressor in his recent outings. Evans on the other hand has become truly all-around fighter. Many take his wrestling and ground game as mediocre but lets not forget he is one of the best wrestlers in collegiate history. His standup has been exponentially improving fight after fight, especially with a flash KO against Chuck Liddell. I see this being an upset with the highly favored Machida picking up his first loss via decision.
Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra: The grudge match of all grudge matches is finally here. This one has been hyped more than Ortiz vs. Shamrock 3. The emotion and hate between the two Matt’s is the heaviest in MMA. I do not see Serra taking the fight to Matt Hughes as strong as some would think. I see a lopsided, 1 man fight domination by Hughes and a TKO is imminent in the 2nd round
Sean Sherk vs. Frank Edgar: Sherk will dominate Edgar due to his size and strength, ONLY if he can outlast an early barrage of punches. Sherk will take this to the 2nd round and win via TKO.
Chael Sonnen vs. Dan Miller: Due to Sonnen’s mindset and and dramatic weight loss of almost 40 lbs. I do not feel he is ready for this fight against Dan Miller. Dan will work the mat and submit Chael in round 1.
Xavier Foupa-Pokam vs. Drew McFedries: McFedries will take this fight via decision.
Phillipe Nover vs. Kyle Bradley: Big fight and must win for both fighters. I see Kyle Bradley taking this fight since he is on the chopping block with 2 consecutive losses in the UFC. Bradley by way of TKO round 3.
Brock Larson vs. Mike Pyle: Larson by 3 round decision. Larson moves up the ranks.
Tim Hague vs. Patrick Barry: Tim Hague, 1st round KO.
Andre Gusmao vs. Krzysztof Soszynski: Bold prediction by head writer Gray D. but I have to agree. See Soszynski pull off a trademark kimura in the 2nd round.
Yoshiyuki Yoshida vs. Brandon Wolff: Yoshida via unanimous decision.
Dave Kaplan vs. George Roop: Roop by 2nd round submission.
I, Adam D. started a bit late with picks and predictions so I have a low win loss record. Current picks and predictions record stands at 39-22. Look for my record to be boosted this coming weekend. Keep it right here for up to date results of tonights great PPV, UFC 98: “Evans v. Machida”
